Artist Biography
Arrah Lee Gaul (1888-1980)
Born/lived: born in Philadelphia, PA
Known: She earned her living as a portraitist. She also painted landscapes and seascapes.
Studied: in Europe, Middle East, China, Japan, India and Canada. She studied under Henry B. Snell in Brittany and Amalfi.
Member: American Watercolor Society; National Association of Women Artists; Ten Philadelphia Painters; Plastic Club.
Exhibited: Art Institute of Chicago; Philadelphia Art Club; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (She used the name Brennan for her 1921 exhibition entries at PAFA).
Taught: Taught at the Philadelphia School of Design and became head of its education department.
