Artist Biography

Edward K. Williams (1870-1950)

Born/lived: Greenburg, Pennsylvania; lived in Nashville, Indiana.

Known: as a Brown County landscape painter who with many other artists, created the Brown County Art Colony nearly 100 years ago.

Studied: Art Institute of Chicago with Freer, Vanderpoel, Fursman, and Krehbiel.

Member: Chicago Gallery Association; Indiana Art Club; Brown County Art Gallery Association; Hoosier Salon; Chicago Society of Artists.

Exhibited: Art Institute of Chicago; Hoosier Salon; Brown County Art Gallery Association; Indiana Art Club; Chicago Gallery Association; American Watercolor Society; New York Watercolor Club; Herron Art Institute along with other Brown County artists such as T.C. Steele, Adolph Shulz, Will Vawter, Gustave Baumann, Charles Dahlgreen, Lucie Hartrath, L.O. Griffith, C. Curry Bohm, Ada Walter Shulz, Carl Graf, V.J. Cariani, Dale Bessire, Georges LaChance, Marie Goth, Leota Loop, Adam Emory Albright, Olive Rush, and Alexis Fournier.

Positions: He was president of the Brown County Art Gallery Association and the Indiana Art Club.
