Karl Witkowski (1860-1910)
Witkowski was a late nineteenth-century American painter. He was trained under Jan Matejko (1838-1893). He specialized in genre and portrait painting. Witkowski, like his contemporary J.G. Brown (1831 – 1913), focused his attention on the young shoeshine and paperboys working in growing cities. In 1899 Karl exhibited two paintings at the National Academy of Design in New York City.
