Walter Emerson Baum, A.N.A. (1884-1956)
Born/lived: Sellersville, PA
Known: Baum was the only member of the New Hope Landscape School who was born in Bucks County, PA. He was considered “father of art in the Lehigh Valley”. During the 1930’s-40’s he helped found the Lehigh Art Alliance, and was director of the Allentown Museum Art, director of his own Baum School of Art, and art editor for the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin. His American impressionist paintings depicted the Delaware River Valley’s changing seasons with scenes of woodlands, creeks and buildings such as stone barns.
Studied: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with W.T. Trego, Honor Degree, H.L.D., Lehigh University. He was influenced by Daniel Garber
