Carl Hoerman (1885-1955)
Born/lived: Babenhausen, Bavaria; Chicago, IL; Saugatuck, MI; Palm Springs and Riverside, CA; Douglas, MI. He was married to Christiana Akermann who was also a painter.
Known: As a landscape painter, etcher, craftsman and architect.
Studied: Trained as an architect and ran his own firm. After 1920 devoted most of his time to painting. He may have studied in Munich, Germany under Prince Carl Fugger.
Member: Laguna Beach Art Association; Chicago Gallery Association; Chicago Painters and Sketchers, Saugatuck Art Association, Riverside Art Association.
Exhibited: Art Institute of Chicago, Pasadena Art Institute, Association of Fine Art, Springfield, Pasadena Art Institute, All-California Exhibition.
Awards: Art Institute of Chicago; Loganpurchase prize, Illinois Academy of Fine Arts, Sprinfield, IL; Englewood Women’s Club.
