Artist Biography

Harry Humphrey Moore (1844-1926)

Born/lived: New York, NY, Hartford, PA/Paris.

Known: he specialized in Spanish, Japanese, and Moorish subjects.

Studied: Deaf at three, he attended schools for the deaf in Hartford and Philadelphia, Bail in New Haven; S. Waugh in Phila, (He was a student of Thomas Eakins when attending a school for the deaf in Philadelphia); Ecole des Beaux Arts and Academie Julian in Paris; Mark Hopkins Art Institute, San. F.

Member: Rochester Art Club.

Exhibited: National Academy of Design; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; Art Institute of Chicago; Salons of the Societe` Nationale des Beaux Arts, Paris; Paris Salon; Bohemian Club; Mark Hopkins Art Institute; Mechanics’ Inst. (SF); Snow & Mays Gallery (SF), 1877 (solo).

Work: Calif. Historical Society; Bohemian Club; Carnegie Institute.
